 GameStop CEO gets fired

 GameStop announced the firing of Matt Furlong, its chief executive officer, and the company said in a short press release about Furlong’s dismissal that there was no immediate replacement, despite the appointment of chairman Ryan Cohen as CEO.

Furlong joined GameStop after eight years at Amazon Before, leaving Amazon he was the company’s business lead in Australia.


Game Stop also made Mark Robinson the company’s new “chief executive officer” with the title of general manager, according to the company’s Form 10-Q. Robinson has been at GameStop for nearly eight years, according to his LinkedIn, and most recently served as the company’s general counsel.

The company did not provide a reason for terminating the services of Furlong who has served as CEO of GameStop since 2021.

The company also released its results for the first quarter, reporting revenues of $1.24 billion, down from $1.38 billion during the same period last year.

Furlong isn’t the first senior GameStop executive to leave so soon after being hired as former Chief Operating Officer Gina Owens departed in October 2021 after just seven months joining, and former CFO Michael Recupero who was hired around the same time he was brought in was terminated.
