God Of War story from begining to Ragnarok
God Of War is one of the best franchises in the video game world , and since the new game released this month , we will review the history and background of the game till we reach to ragnarok.
Though we will not speak about the new game, this article will contain spoilers for the previous release.
God Of War
Kratos was a Spartan warrior who led his army into war after war , and while he was destroying his enemies, he became more thirsty for blood , and once he finished a battle, he looked for the next one.
Due to this, he neglected his family , wife and daughter , and despite the request of his wife to stop fighting, he could not leave war life .
It was not until one battle he fought against barbarian where he and his army were defeated and he almost died. By the time the barbarian king was willing to kill kratos, he asked for the help of Ares ( God Of War) ( one of the Twelve Olympians, and the son of Zeus and Hera according to Greek mythology), who agreed to help kratos, but in return kratos must serve Ares .
After that, Kratos started to serve Ares , and continued to fight war after war as Ares was asking him to do.
One day, Ares asked from Kratos to destroy and kill the people in a village. In that village there was a temple where some people were there. Kratos, who was not seeing anything other than his thirst to kill and blood, enters the temple and kills and burns the people inside it.
It was then when he realised that the woman and the girl inside the temple were only his wife and daughter who were transferred secretly by Ares to make kratos kill both of them to make him a worrior without any feelings. That may be a weak point that prevents Ares from using him to fulfill his desires.
In the village, there was an old woman who warned kratos not to enter the temple before that. Then she cursed him by putting the ashes of his family on his body, turning it to the grey color we see on him, and led the people to call him the ghost of Sparta.
after that and in order to expiate his mistake he starts to serve the gods of olympos for ten years , but the nightmares of what he done was chasing him and his service to the gods could not cure him.
Then he spoke with Athena, who told him that if he wanted the nightmare to leave him, he had to kill Ares , and in order to do that, he had to open Pandora’s Box to gain the power to kill Ares. Then he started his journey to find the box and finally he found it and opened it and gained the power that let him defeat Ares in a battle where Athena took him to Olympus, where he became the new god of war
God Of War II
Kratos is still haunted by nightmares from his past . Ignoring Athena’s warnings, Kratos joins the Spartan army in an attack on Rhodes, during which a giant eagle, which Kratos assumes to be Athena, suddenly drains a huge portion of his powers and uses it to animate the Colossus of Rhodes.
Suffering after defeating the colossus of Rhodes, the eagle appears to be Zeus , then kratos, who is suffering after his battle, faces Zeus, who kills kratos .
Kratos is then saved by the Titan Gaia, who helps him escape the underworld and tells him he needs to find the Sisters of Fate, who can return time to the moment Zeus killed him, then he can stop that and take his revenge on Zeus .
So Kratos starts his journey to find the sisters and he returns back in time to the end of the great war to save the giants from being defeated and bring them with him to destroy Olympus.
God Of War III
Kratos destroys every god and titan on his way to reach Olympus and defeats Zeus, who appears to be Kratos’ father ( Kratos’ mother is a human ).
At the end, Kratos manages to kill Zeus and sacrifices himself to save the world, since he releases evil when he opens Pandora’s Box, so he kills himself with the Blade of Olympus and saves the world , but the end of the game shows Kratos has survived and manages to leave the place.
God Of War 2018
Years after all these events, Kratos now lives a normal life and has a wife and son , but the game starts with his wife passing away and her last wish: to scatter her ashes at the highest peak in the nine realms .
Kratos then gets a visit from a suspicious man who claims that he knows who he is and then they fight each other .
Kratos discovers that the man has great power like the gods and he does not feel pain. Later he knew that this man was the son of oden who his mother put a a spell on him for protection.
At the end of their journey , Kratos and his son manage to kill Baldur ( the mysterious man ).
They then fulfill their promise and spread Faye’s ashes at the peak, overlooking a valley of Giant corpses. Afterward, Kratos reveals to Atreus that his given name was that of a compassionate Spartan comrade. Returning to Midgard, they retrieve Mímir, who warns them that Baldur’s death has caused the three-year-long Fimbulwinter to begin nearly a century earlier than prophecized, meaning Ragnarök is soon to follow.
